Exxon Mobil Company
4-19-09 Exxon Mobil Beats Wal-Mart in 2009 Fortune 500 List, Bentonville, Ark.-based Wal-Mart had held the top spot for six of the last seven years.
12-18-08. It seems that it is just one thing after another with MAJOR CORPORATIONS. The latest news on Exxon Mobil Corporation is that Federal officials have fined Exxon Mobil in excess of $6 million dollars after it violated a three-year-old agreement to decrease air pollution at four oil refineries.
Exxon Mobil just paid a $7.7 million fine in its 2005 agreement with the government and promised to install new emissions controls at the refineries.
The company's role in environmental pollution has been a never ending story since the 1989 Exxon Valdez incident in Alaska, the worst oil spill in U.S. history. The U.S. Supreme Court ordered the company to pay $507 million in punitive damages from the incident, down from an original $2.5 billion judgment.
It seems to me that $2.5 billion dollars was more than reasonable for a fine for the worst oil spill in U.S. history. $507 million is nothing to them. Makes you wonder how major corporations get away with such ridiculous slaps on the wrists for behaviour that continues to be astonishing.
4-19-08. Exxon Mobil named #1 company in Fortune's 500, with 442 BILLION in revenue and 45 BILLION in profit. Another prime example of a company making ridiculous profits at the expense of hard working Americans (and others).
